Looking back on 2008, one of my favorite albums of the year was the Fleet Foxes self-titled release. Even though they get a little close to My Morning Jacket’s vocal territory at times, the Fleet Foxes are way more mellow and folky and less rock and roll. It’s a wonderful album to throw on in the morning and let it wake you up with the beautiful harmonies and warm sounds. It reminds me of the way music was made in the 60’s and 70’s… kind of like the vibe of a mellow CSN&Y or the Beach Boys. Instead of reviewing the album, I wanted to point you a French magazine/blog called Blogotheque. They produce a video series where they take an artist to a cool location and film them playing their songs. The videos are really beautiful and artistically shot. Check out the above episode with the Fleet Foxes… just click on the video to view.
Also of note; when I saw them perform at the Oriental Theatre in Denver, the lead singer Robin Pecknold mentioned Naropa University several times during the show and seemed very interested in stopping by the school the next time he visits Boulder. Keep an eye out for him!
