I’ve been hearing about the CrossFit buzz for a while now and had to check it out. Little did I know that barfing might be a possibility due to the intensity of the workout. Each day the leader picks a new WOD (workout of the day) and a group of folks work together to do “sets” of the WOD under the clock and guidance of the workout leader.
Check this short 3 minute video of me getting my ass kicked doing the WOD and find out if I vomit:
According to Flatirons CrossFit website:
The first time I checked out Flatirons Crossfit, I scheduled an appt with Tim Retzik to get the details and tour. He walked me through proper technique with the kettlebells, the box jumps and “burpies.” Then he timed me doing 3 sets, starting with 21, 15, then 9. I thought I was just going to get “tour” and I got a six minute power workout instead.
Tim spent a lot of time helping me get the kettlebell thing and use proper technique so I wouldn’t get hurt. Most gyms never give you this kind of attention unless you are paying a private trainer. I was very impressed with the patience and support I got the first time I walked in. And, I was there to see a group finish their workout and watch how they cheered each other on.
I’m surprised there are only 2 main Crossfit gyms in Boulder–Boulder CrossFit & Flatirons CrossFit. We have so many “turbo” athletes here. Are they scared or just smart?
