Obama’s speech to Children: is there a place in American Politics for Bipartisan respect for our President?

Obama’s speech to America’s children “good,” says Newt Gingrich.

A reader at the Gainesville Sun spoke, I think, for all Americans:

If our children are forbidden to listen to a 20 minute speech by their president (and yes, he is everyone’s president), then just who can they listen to? When President George H.W. Bush spoke to school children in September 1991 at the National Space Science Symposium, there was no outcry from the Democrats.

Reagan spoke to America’s children, too. Videos hereThe New York Times, however, has been reporting that many conservatives, given the increasing partisanship of the healthcare debate and the Van Jones flap, view Obama’s speech as an attempt to court the support of children:

HOUSTON — President Obama’s plan to deliver a speech to public school students on Tuesday has set off a revolt among conservative parents, who have accused the president of trying to indoctrinate their children with socialist ideas and are asking school officials to excuse the children from listening.

The uproar over the speech, in which Mr. Obama intends to urge students to work hard and stay in school, has been particularly acute in Texas, where several major school districts, under pressure from parents, have

…but…

Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, said on “Fox News Sunday,” “It is good to have the president of the United States say to young people across America, ‘Stay in school, study and do your homework.’ ”

And Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee, said on the same show, “Of course the president of the United States should be able to address students.”

“If I were a teacher,” Mr. Alexander added, “I’d take advantage of it.”

Good to see a few leading Republicans taking a step back from the left/right fight and remember that we’re all Americans, in this together, and that steering one big boat takes a little respect and cooperation, from time to time. Finally, a “fair and balanced perspective” from Fox:

Commentary: Obama has his Marxist sights set on our children, he has them targeted. Socialist indoctrination 101 is coming to a classroom near you, so get ready. He knows how important it is to start forming the minds of the young before they become set in their freedom loving ways. He will enlighten them with his Socialist ways; he will set them free from their reliance on their parents, and from their independent thought.

The Department of Education has distributed talking points suggestions for the teachers after the President is done speaking. One of them suggests that teachers ask their children, “What specific job is the President asking me to do?” And “Is he asking anything else of anyone else: teachers, principles, parents…American people?” Students should also be encouraged, according to the Federal Government, to ask themselves, “What can I do to help the President?” And lastly, children in sixth grade and higher should be asked to answer this question, “What is the President inspiring me to do?”

But wait, there’s more. They will also be encouraged to make artwork and posters of notable quotes from Obama’s speech. Now if that’s not enough to inspire some Socialism into our children, then I don’t know what is. Maybe he could turn this into a weekly event, just like his Youtube/radio address. He could also have regional concert like events where tens of thousands of children attend to hear him speak, and then afterwards they could have collective workshops where they make plans to solve the problems of the earth that were brought on by the evil white men of the past and present.

Is this getting you excited yet? Are you just about off of your couch yet? Is this the America you envisioned for your kids? How much of this BS needs to come your way before you stand up and put a stop to it? When will you decide to get politically active in order to save your Republic? Just how much damage needs to be done before you take a stand against all of this progressive BS?
