Hummers may have been the love ’em (macho) or hate ’em (eco-responsibility) symbol of American excess, but…in the end, no one bought ’em.
Via NYT:
Mr. Richards said Hummer dealers in the United States had about 2,500 vehicles in their inventories. In January, the brand sold just 265 units in the country. Hummer sales plunged 67 percent in 2009, to a total of 9,046.
Perhaps people were afraid of looking like, or being treated like…or being, a**holes.
All that said, our condolences to those workers who are losing their jobs. Hopefully they can come work for Tesla, or some other more responsible, yet still cool and growing car manufacturer.
