“It’s a selfish thing to want to protect Nature.” ~ Yvon Chouinard.

A Mindful Manifesto

The other quote I love in this Amex video (which we first covered here) is:

“To do good you actually have to do something.” ~Yvon Chouinard

But be careful. When you do something, you get criticized. You mess up. You fail.

Life ain’t for the faint-hearted. It is, as the Japanese are fond of saying, the nail that sticks out that gets hammered down.

Doing something means you’ll be accused of hypocrisy, of imperfection, of greenwashing…and, sometimes, “they” will be right. But if your mission and intention your vision and view are grounded, the truth will emerge out of the hype.

This means you’ll spend your days working and nights working and weekends working while your friends make more money, easier…but your work will be something you love, and what you love will make you lovable and protect our earth and our next seven generations. And we’re enerting a generation where the old paradigms are just that; old. Where doing well and doing good don’t conflict. Where we can have our organic free-range fair-labor cake and eat it, too. Where we can save the tigers and the elephants, oh my, while making enough time for yoga class and one too many microbrews.

And that’s the only kind of life worth the living.
