The Troubadours Collective is back! After their widely successful show in January at the Fox Theatre, the collective is yet again bringing together some of the best local acts for a great night of entertainment. For over 5 years running, the Troubadours’ events have been an eclectic collection of local musicians in the Boulder and Denver area.
With such a rich assortment of musicians, the local music scene is thriving, and on March 4th at the Fox Theatre, Troubadour’s Collective will be gathering some of the best local talent for a night full of pure entertainment.
For the last five years, the Troubadour’s Collective has been a strong staple in the local scene, presenting local acts at various venues with the mission of giving artists in the local scene a chance to perform their work. This past January the Troubadour’s Collective held a show that was widely successful- “Not only was the venue packed, but there was a magic in the air, one I haven’t felt since my youth” says singer/songwriter Dechen Hawk.
The group is at it again on March 4th, this time featuring various talented acts including the Paper Stars, fronted by Tres Altman- a talented multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and performer who is no stranger to the Troubadours having played drums at past events for Troubadours’ founder Ramaya Soskin, who will also be playing on Friday night.
The evening will also highlight local jazz collective Supercollider — blending jazz, blues, funk and rock music. Adding something fresh to the scene, Lesley Kernochan, a singer, composer/songwriter, saxophonist, and saw player, will take the stage displaying her skills as both a modern composer and extraordinary performer.
“We’re committed to communal success, to featuring up-and-coming artists, and transforming the music scene to a level that not only rivals that of either coast, but surpasses it,” said Hawk about the collective’s agenda.
Ramaya Soskin, Dechen Hawk, Mortimer, along with the talented Jeb Bows, Jim Stephens, Clay Rose, Max Davies, Stewart Erlich, and Colin Robison, will grace to stage to remind us how amazing the local music scene is.
Let’s go over that just one more time, for those hiding in the back of the class…
Featuring:
The Paper Stars, led by Tres Altman, create sounds and stories where words and music meet in the most imaginable of ways. Their album (self-titled) is packed with sounds that link knowledge of ancient books and pungent wisdom whisked from a life well-traveled. The Paper Stars build music that reflects illustration, emotion, and gives the listener open access to the artists’ creativity.
Supercollider is a music collective that blends the sounds and beats of jazz, blues, funk, and rock music with a predilection for improvisational jams. Comprised of several musicians including — Jon Gray (trumpet, keys, vocals; Jon Stewart (saxophone); Greg Harris (vibraphone, keys); Mark Donovan (guitar); Dan Schwindt (guitar); Garret Sayers (bass); Zack Littlefield (drums), and often featuring guest performers, the group’s musical roots are firmly planted in the traditions of jazz with a strong improvisation foundation that is sure to get the audience moving.
Mortimer uses the sacrament of music to express the spectrum of the human experience. This can sometimes sound like a lullaby or a religious disagreement roaming somewhere between the realms of luscious atmospheric rock-n-roll and old fashion Americana/ The Boulder-based band recorded their debut album “Ten Eventful Years” with Irish guitarist and producer Gerry Leondard. Over the last seven years, founding member Donnie Mortimer has shared the stage with Duncan Sheik, Griffin House, David Poe, & The Spooky Ghost.
Lesley Kernochan is a singer, composer/songwriter, saxophonist, and saw player. Her B.A. in Music Composition at Lewis & Clark College introduced her to a rich community of musicians in the Portland area. This led her to three years of composing and touring on saxophone and voice with The March Fourth Marching Band. In addition to her performing life, she has two independently released solo albums of original music.
Dechen Hawk’s music ranges from beautiful ballads to serious backbeat funk. Music credits for television/film/radio include the Swedish documentary “No Artificial Anything,” the independent film “Don Juan’s Diary,” reality TV’s “What’s Your Problem?” and KGNU radio’s “Jazz & Beyond.” Dechen was also a finalist at the 2003 NCSC Songwriter’s Competition.
Ramaya Soskin: While maturing as a songwriter he practiced his craft and soon started the band SLOWROSA with local songstress Cate Coslor, Tres Altman, Chris Mustaine and Jeb Bows. The band performed with acts such as Devotchka, The Fray, and The Czars at Boulder’s Fox and Boulder Theatre.
The evening will also feature the talented Jeb Bows, Jim Stephens, Clay Rose, Max Davies, Stewart Erlich, and Colin Robison.
