U.S. Chamber of Commerce – renamed the “Gas Chamber”!

“The U.S. Chamber Doesn’t Speak for Me”! Join this movement with Nike, Apple and yes, even Thomas Friedman!

There is a poem about what is happening, right now, all over the world, our ecological systems are in decline.  You’ve heard the list: floods in Thailand, fires in Russia, floods in Australia, spring wildfires in Colorado, millions of acres of dead trees from Canada to Colorado, nuclear meltdown, tornadoes in January, moose mysteriously dying in Minnesota, bees disappearing world wide. Do you need more?  Doing something about these issues always feels better than sinking into despair and resignation.

Later this week, I’ll be moderating a panel at the 63rd Annual Conference on World Affairs at the University of Colorado, entitled “Climate Change: Past the Point of No Return” – a rather daunting title – and any thinking person paying attention would have to agree, we’re not going back, and there are no ultimate solutions. The question is, what are we going to do to diminish the suffering that is clearly coming to visit all of us?

Check out all the activities around the country being coordinated by the 1 Sky organization ( 1 CLIMATE. 1 FUTURE. 1 CHANCE.) and you’ll be glad you did, contact the regional coordinators in your area and find out how you can participate.

In an earlier post, I reminded myself and Elephant Journal readers that doubt is always the friend of the status quo. At a recent talk at the University of Colorado, that point was emphasized again. Unfortunately, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce seems content confusing the issues and stalling on any reasonable action regarding Climate Change.

Doubt and confusion is always the friend of the Status Quo

“It’s 3:23 in the morning

and I’m awake

because my great great grandchildren

won’t let me sleep.

My great great grandchildren ask me in dreams,

What did you do while the planet was plundered?

What did you do when the Earth was unraveling?

Surely you did something when the seasons started failing?

As the mammals, reptiles, birds were all dying?

Did you fill the streets with protest

when democracy was stolen?

What did you do

once

you

knew? …

Well, it’s happening so fast that we’re actually in the middle of the dream, we don’t have to wait for our great great grandchildren to admonish us.

Here is a simple thing you can do – join this U.S. Chamber of Commerce Doesn’t speak for me campaign and if necessary, take to the streets, as if your life depends upon it.

If you wonder how the President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce might show up when his member companies begin to be held accountable for poisoning the air we breath, this little clip from his comments about  the BP oil spill will give you a very good idea what to expect!

Onward with Courage,

Bud
