[Event Preview] Electric Forest Festival, Rothbury, MI.

I am a lucky genius.

Overly-generous folks I just-so-happen to know well have responded positively to my speculative request to attend and provide public explanations of the [insert super-f#ck!ng-awesome hyperbolic experiential superlatives here] event that will be the Electric Forest Festival, in Rothbury, Michigan, at the Double JJ Resort.

This is truly a boon, a blessing and an honor. First, look at the line-up.

String Cheese Incident (3 shows)

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

& Euforquestra

Plus so much more!

Listen to this.
And this.

Here is an interview with Madison House event organizer Jeremy Stein, discussing the difference between Electric Forest and the Rothbury festivals in the past.

Any people out there enjoy dance parties?

In addition to the music, the Double JJ ranch has a whole range of activities for people of all persuasions. There is an awesome indoor water park, horseback riding, and a world-class golf course to go along with a wide variety of options for accommodations, ranging from standard camping, to log cabins, to full-on resort-quality rooms and services.

I have been to the JJ once before — just a quick-stop on a road trip with my father, blasting from Boston to Minneapolis — and it is truly a beautiful setting, tucked away in the woods, on a lake, with an old-timey feel and modern attractions combined in a tasteful, midwestern manner.

And it’s only a 24 hr drive from Boulder (including a stop in Minneapolis to swoop a best friend). 4 hrs from Chicago. 10 hrs from Nashville. 12 hrs from Washington D.C.

As the days count down, I will continue to provide updates on the festival, including information on efforts to make the event as green as possible.

Additionally, look out for live updates and exclusive video during the weekend.

I am excited. Even more so than normal. I will attempt to document and share this giddiness with elephants everywhere.

Until then,
