Lights, Camera, Vote for a Cause!
Greenworks Video, a Denver green screen video production studio, is holding an amazing competition featuring reader-selected nonprofits battling it out for the most support—in the form of facebook “likes”— to win a video that will empower each nonprofit winner—three compete each month for a year totaling 12 winners—to spread their vision of good through video.
It’s inspiring to see a company like Greenworks going above and beyond and giving back to the community. One well-produced video for a nonprofit (which usually isn’t within their means) can change the way they are viewed by supporters and donors and enable them to present their vision to a wider audience. The nonprofits range from empowering students in Africa to finding a cure for a rare blood cancer to a no-kill animal shelter with such variety in between!
To join in the fun and support the nonprofit you think is doing the greatest good, vote at Greenworks Video’s Facebook Page: http://on.fb.me/GreenworksVideoSupportsNonProfits
The July participants were Educate!, an organization that empowers Ugandan youth through education and leadership programs, Denver’s Road Home, which has implemented a 10 year plan to end homelessness in Denver by 2015, and EarthLinks, a Colorado based nonprofit that connects homeless and low-income adults with work programs that provide them with the skills to sustain themselves and the planet. Educate! won!
The August participants are: MaxFund, a no kill animal shelter that works hard to find forever homes for dogs and cats. It’s “the small shelter that makes a big difference.” Environmental Learning for Kids, (ELK) provides science and environmental conservation education through hands-on field trips, with long-term mentoring and leadership development provided by natural resource professionals; and Elephant Energy which promotes rural development and nature conservation through the dissemination of appropriate low cost intermediate energy technologies in communal area conservancies in the Caprivi Region of Namibia.

There was a tie between Who is amy? and The Matthew Shepard Foundation as the inaugural June winners of the Lights, Camera, Vote for a Cause!
Who is amy?, an organization that raises funds for medical research and promotes awareness of the life-threatening blood disease amyloidosis, and The Matthew Shepard Foundation, which raises public awareness about gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender hate crimes, will both receive a custom-made video produced by Greenworks Video’s Emmy award winning writer-director Brian Doubleday and veteran editor Jim McConnell. Both nonprofits were passionate about the contest and garnered hundreds of votes, promoting the contest through their blogs, websites and social media sites.
“We are delighted and grateful for the opportunity to have a professional video developed for our cause,” said Becca Barry, Founder and President of Who is amy?. “The video will aid us in spreading awareness of amyloidosis through all channels of our marketing.”
“We are enormously grateful to Greenworks and to their fans for their votes,” said Jason Marsden, Executive Director of the Matthew Shepherd Foundation. “The new video comes at a perfect time, as we are currently expanding our educational outreach and resource programs. This will give us a great opportunity to reach a wider audience with our work to Erase Hate.”
Greenworks Video‘s “Lights, Camera, Vote For A Cause!” is a yearlong video contest for Colorado non-profit organizations.
According to the Governor’s office, Colorado has one of the largest non-profit sectors per capita in the country with over 19,000 non-profit organizations throughout the state. At the same time, philanthropic giving to the non-profit sector is 38th in the country when considering per capita income versus per capita giving.
36 Colorado Non-Profits picked to participate
Responding to Colorado’s growing philanthropic community and worthy causes in need, Greenworks Video has selected a total of 36 diverse Colorado non-profit organizations to participate in a yearlong video contest with a winner each month. Each of the 12 contest winners will receive a custom-made video produced by Greenworks Video’s Emmy award winning writer-director Brian Doubleday and veteran editor Jim McConnell.
“Non-profit organizations can significantly benefit from using the visual impact of video to communicate their cause,” says Doubleday. “This contest gives us the opportunity to aid our Colorado non-profit community, many with limited resources, in gaining much deserved exposure.”VotingThe public will vote throughout the year on the Greenworks Video Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/GreenworksVideoSupportsNonProfits. Each month, three selected charities will participate in the Facebook contest. The charity with the most votes at the end of the month will receive a complimentary Gold video package from Greenworks Video, valued at $699. The Gold video package includes a 60 to 120 second video using Green Screen technology (which is used to create elaborate affects in Hollywood movies), and post-production which can be used to create 3-Dimensional effects with just about any set imaginable. The organizations will benefit from using the video on their websites, public service announcements, fundraising, and event promotion.
Prize
At the end of the yearlong contest, Greenworks Video will select a Grand Prize winner who will receive a sponsored fundraiser held at Greenworks Video’s Downtown Denver studios, and all of the proceeds from the event.
“Video creates stronger relationships and connection—in ways no other media can,” says McConnell. “Our gift of video can support a charity’s mission and outreach for years.”
