Over the course of her career, a typical woman working full time in the U.S. will lose $431,000.
That’s f*ckin’ unfair!
The first bill that Obama signed into law was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which makes it easier for women to challenge pay discrimination.
Stephen Colbert interviewed the act’s namesake in the video below.
But first it’s worth noting two things:
- Most Democrats voted for the act, and all but a few Republicans—including vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan—opposed it.
- When Romney’s campaign was asked whether he supported the Lilly Ledbetter Act, a spokesman replied, “We’ll get back to you on that.” I haven’t found any new replies out there in cyberspace.
