elephantjournal.com’s Editing / New Media Ethics / Social Media Apprenticeship Program.
We’re looking for responsible elephant readers/writers who are self-starters, eager learners, good communicators, respect the written word and are inspired not only by elephant’s mission of bringing together all those working (and playing) to create enlightened society but the idea of working with a community of like-minded apprentices from all over the world, as well as elephant’s core team of editors.
If you are a stickler for punctuation, fear emoticons, fear ALL CAPS and you love to read—apply to join us.
We’ll train the hell out of you and send you a calligraphed, eco-printed “Certificate of Editorial Apprenticeship” after four months. Having won numerous national awards in social and new media and environmental, spiritual, yoga and wellness coverage, and with 1.4 million readers a month and counting, apprenticing with elephant can be a nice feather in your career cap.
The “Elephant Editorial Apprentice Certificate Training Program” offers training in social media, new media and editing at elephant journal—one of the top blogs in the U.S.
1. Some of your responsibilities will include selecting non-copyrighted photos, communicating with our editors and public authors and editing and posting articles in a timely manner via WordPress to elephantjournal.com. The editorial apprenticeship is 15 hours a week with a minimum commitment of six months (at the end of which we’ll send you the certificate, and if inspired, you can continue as an Apprentice Editor for elephant). In addition to the required apprentice tasks, we ask that you contribute one article a week to elephantjournal.com
2. Apprentice Editors may handle an elephant journal subsection (Green, Adventure, Wellness, Enlightened Education, Ecofashion, Food, Bicycling, Politics, Culture etc.—we cover all aspects of the mindful life) as well as the subsection’s facebook and twitter pages, and guest submissions.
3. Apprentice Editors may be hired on, if you’re interested and we’re interested and able. That said, employment is rare and should not be a goal. Learning this new and yet timeless craft, having fun and being of benefit should be the only real goal for apprentices.
Our apprenticeships empower and train those interested in a potential career switch or those interested simply in ramping up their new and social media and editorial skills.
If you are still interested in being a part of our community in this way, we’d love to hear more about your experience and if the required commitment works for you. Please send your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you’d be a good fit to editorial [at] elephantjournal [dot] com. We take commitment seriously, will invest a lot of time and training in you, and do not want to work with anyone who’s unsure of your ability to fulfill the full apprenticeship.
elephant journal, and Walk the Talk Show with Waylon Lewis, are dedicated to bringing the good news beyond the choir and to the masses in a fun, yet fundamentally serious manner—and we’d love for you to help us be of benefit.
If you don’t hear back from us within a few days, the position has been filled, however, we’d still like for you to contribute to elephant by writing articles (check out our writer’s guidelines: elephantjournal.
