My oldest son, Aidan came to me the other day with pieces of paper.
He explained they were “Character Keys” from school. They acknowledge students good character traits in his school. He received one for initiative, one for perseverance, and two for compassion. My heart swelled with pride as he told me how he demonstrated these traits toward a new teacher and a boy in gym class.
It’s times like that when I think about what’s really important.
As a parent, we can’t force our beliefs on our kids, but we can be an example. I try every day.
Upon self-reflection today, I asked myself…what do I believe?
I came up with 10 things.
1. I love God-Source-Universe, Higher power, or whatever works for you. I respect if you worship differently. I don’t debate about God. God=Love.
2. I believe what I put out there comes back to me. Law of Attraction, Karma, what goes around comes around, it’s so true. Observe people and you’ll notice this. And put good stuff out there in the Universe.
3. Integrity can be different for everyone, but for me it’s being an honest person, while being kind at the same time.
4. I value individuality and don’t think people have to think, talk, dress, or be anything like me in order to be awesome.
5. I think love knows no sex, race, language or barrier. Your heart loves who it loves and God loves this.
6. I believe we teach and learn every day. Our life’s purpose is to enjoy life and live our joy. We grow in the process of finding who we are, which at our core is our soul.
7. I believe in people. I’m always good at telling if people are lying, because I look for the good in people. No matter what, I’ll have my heart open.
8. I am about forgiving and forgetting. I don’t live in regret and won’t live in anyone else’s. I feel so free, not carrying around the things other people did. I can love from a distance, rather than holding a grudge.
9. I see everyone as my equal. I make no apologies for loving myself fully-madly-completely-utterly-unabashedly. On a soul level, love for oneself, is love for all. If you observe that as ego, it’s your ego.
10. On a soul level, I am connected to everyone. I love everyone. I wish everyone well. My intention for my life really is to walk my talk, as the late Debbie Ford called, a “Love Warrior.” I spread love and light.
