I’ve always been told that even the smallest positive changes can lead to a longer life. Most people know that if they eat right, exercise and don’t smoke, they will live a healthier life.
While these are all true, there are many more things that humans can do to extend their lifetime.
1. Take the train.
Cities around the world are supporting mass transit for many different reasons. Some reasons include saving money, less emissions in the atmosphere and less traffic on the roads—clearly, city governments are on the right ‘track.’ A mass transit that focuses on trains and railways can significantly reduce the death rate of people in the area.
Here’s why: the risks of dying before the age of 75 are one in 976 in a car, one in 54,433 on a plane, and one in 131,313 in a train. This shows that train travel is the most livable way to get around. It can also be faster and cheaper!
2. Don’t overeat.
Many people know that if you eat fried potato chips for breakfast, KFC Chicken for lunch, and soda for dinner, you are really pushing your life expectancy. But even if you do eat healthy foods, too much of a good thing can still be bad. The goal should be everything in moderation.
By limiting your caloric intake by 25-30 percent daily, you can increase your lifespan! St. Louis University researchers found that limiting calories lowered the production of T3, a hormone that slows the metabolism and speeds up the aging process.
Tip: A sign that your body is full is the first time you sigh while eating. Make sure to drink plenty of water before and during the meal. Most people think they are hungry when really their body is craving water.
3. Laugh… a lot!
Spending time laughing with friends allows your brain to be happy. If you take time to laugh with friends, you are 50 percent less likely to suffer from dementia when you get into your old age.
This goes along with drinking wine in moderation. It can relieve stress and help with circulation throughout your body. Of course, this activity must not be abused. It’s all about control; we don’t want to see you go to recovery centers for help.
4. Eat seeds.
It is ingrained into our brain that fruits and vegetables are super-foods for our body. But seeds are often left out of this category.
Seeds contain a goldmine of many nutrients and minerals that are essential to a long life. They contain the vital iron and zinc that we need, and make the perfect work snack.
5. Get a dog.
A dog is a man or woman’s best friend in more ways than one. Even WebMD says dogs can improve your health in 27 different ways!
Chances are that once you do get a dog, the activities you do with it are going to make you more active, which will lower your level of stress and live longer!
If you already practice these techniques, great! If not, give a few of them a try and let us know how you feel in the comments below. They will not only make you live longer, but your quality of life will increase, too!
