Walk the Talk Show with Waylon Lewis.
“If ever there was a document that might cause human beings to reconsider our entire relationship to the animal world this hauntingly beautiful book is it.” ~ Wade Davis, Explorer in Residence, National Geographic Society
Waylon & Jo-Anne McArthur talk how to remain sane as an animal rights activist, how small changes can lead to big ones & why it is important to encourage people to be their best. Jo-Anne has been documenting the plight of animals on all seven continents for over 10 years.
“These Images Take us to Dark & Hidden Places.” ~ Dr. Jane Goodall
Elephant is psyched to be working in partnership with Google+ on our new live video series, which features three live videos a week (that can be watched later, too).
The We Animals project was created by award-winning photojournalist Jo-Anne McArthur who has been documenting the plight of animals on all seven continents for over 10 years. Her documentary project, We Animals, is internationally celebrated and over 100 animal organizations, among them Animal Equality, Sea Shepherd and the Jane Goodall Institute, have benefited from her photography. Many organizations continue to work closely with Jo-Anne on campaigns and investigations. Recent awards and accolades include the 2013 Compassion for Animals Award; one of CBC’s Top 50 Champions of Change; HuffPost women’s “Top 10 Women trying to change the world”; and one of 20 activists featured in the book The Next Eco Warrior. Her work continues to be published internationally. Jo-Anne is the protagonist in Canadian film maker Liz Marshall’s celebrated documentary The Ghosts In Our Machine and her first book, also entitled We Animals, was published by Lantern Books in 2013. She hails from Toronto, Canada.
We Animals is a 208-page, hard cover collection that includes over 100 photographs documenting the plight of animals, shot over the last decade in 40 countries around the world. McArthur is the Founder of We Animals, a project and archive that makes visible the barriers that humans have built which allow us to treat non-human animals as objects and not as beings with moral significance.
We Animals shares both harrowing and uplifting stories about our complex relationship with animals. It includes previously unseen photographs and a compilation of journal entries from investigative work in the field.
Dr. Jane Goodall, primatologist and author, says of We Animals, “Powerfully disturbing. These images take us to dark and hidden places visited by only a few determined and courageous individuals like Jo-Anne McArthur.”
Much like Edward Burtynsky’s Manufactured Landscapes, the book is at once chilling and beautiful.
