Uplifting News: “Perfect Match: Brazilian Kids Learn English by Video Chatting With Lonely Elderly Americans.” Touching.
“The afternoon knows what morning never suspected.” ~ Robert Frost
Across oceans and generations people are finding people in a most unexpected way.
There are perhaps some universal truths about people. Some things we all want regardless of time and place. Despite one’s age, one’s culture, one’s roots we all want to learn and we all want purpose.
Sometimes finding the opportunity to learn is inhibited by opportunity and—at least in American culture—purpose often diminishes with age.
Often my friends lament technology.
They tell me that it is making us disconnected, making us less human, less available.
But every now and again a project comes about that shatters these ideas and brings people closer together than we ever could be without technology.
It’s hard to pick what I love most about this video: The relationships that are built. The smiles.
The way we can only really learn things by making mistakes in safe places.
The way people are finding each other.
But, I think after many views, my favorite moment is the moment when a woman in an elderly home says to a young person living thousands of miles away “I love you.”
