Our skin is our largest organ.
Years ago, when I became aware of all the scary ingredients in nearly every commercial skin care product, I began looking into ways to make my own anti-aging serum. My goal was to throw away as many store bought products as I could and replace them with even better ones that I made myself. Here’s what I’ve created.
INGREDIENTS
Grapeseed oil: 3 Tbsp
Apricot oil: 2 Tbsp + 1.5 tsp
Avocado oil: 1.5 tsp
Grapefruit essential oil: 15-20 drops
I chose to mix oils that were high quality, food grade, fairly light in consistency and known for anti-aging properties.
Grapeseed and Apricot oils are light, easily soaked up by the skin and good for fine lines. While Avocado oil is a bit heavier, it is also one of the most easily absorbed oils, and can reach the deeper skin layers where it reduces age spots, heals sun damage and increases collagen.
Grapefruit essential oil is high in vitamin C. It smells great, and lifts our moods as well as our immune systems.
Measure all the oils into a small bowl or cup.
Use a small funnel (unless your aim is better than mine) to pour into a bottle. I like the dark tinted eyedropper bottles because they are light blocking and easy to use. Since this is quick and easy to make, I like to mix small batches so it’s not sitting around forever.
Store it out of sunlight, and shake before using.
Skin is the largest organ, and whatever we put on topically is absorbed internally. If we would never eat the petrochemicals, parabens, phthalates or whatever other unpronounceable ingredients found in store bought skin care products, why would we want to ingest them into our bodies through our skin?
Your skin will look and feel so much better; mine does! Try it out and tell me what you think!
