Okay, I have to fess up to something.
I almost did not share this because I’m so absolutely tired of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
Let me tell you two reasons why.
I think that this constant barrage of social-media-ice-bucket-video sharing, while well-intentioned in concept, is becoming much more of a look-at-me, narcissistic, voyeuristic (in the bikini-clad celebrity approach), social-media trend than anything else.
That’s not to say that I don’t support raising both money and awareness for ALS, but I just think it’s getting old to see this everywhere with, frequently, very little actually mentioned about how much money was donated to the cause.
(I keep joking to my husband that I want to see scantily-clad bikini shots of people sitting at their laptops or check books making donations.)
Another other quick reason for my slight disdain of this challenge is the waste of water (this is a lot of water, people!).
Aside from droughts, dry climates and just overall waste of water and ice, I have to say that I have one Facebook friend who also thought of doing this while standing in their garden. So, if you plan on taking this challenge, try not—for the love of God—doing it on your driveway.
Alright. Moving on.
So why did I decide to share this Kermit the Frog version? One reason: it just kind of made me smile and this grin reminded me of why this challenge was started in the first place.
That said, let me share with you this video and, fingers crossed, we’re getting to the end of this fad.
