*Eleditor’s note: Astrology isn’t a religion. We’re not sure it’s a science, either. It’s magic, maybe. But, as with feng shui, say, things affect things. So as long as we don’t go blaming our problems on the stars, as long as we assume responsibility for our own actions…well, hell, a little auspicious coincidence and applicable wisdom can’t hurt. And so, with that grain of salt…enjoy!
Libra is symbolized by the scales, but it doesn’t mean that this sun sign is lacking in adventure or plenty of ups and downs.
As a Libra friend of mine once said, “We’re still working on the balancing thing.”
Often, we have preconceived notions about what each sun sign is all about. We see Libra’s scales and assume that folks born under that sign will have their act down pat.
The danger of this is that they try to live up to our expectations—sometimes Libra pretends that life isn’t throwing them a curve ball.
“Aren’t you a Libra? If you don’t have balance in your life, then who will” is a question that Libra’s meet with a proverbial roll of their eyes.
Here’s a little bit about Libra that reveals their true, enigmatic nature.
Libra: September 24 – October 22.
Number: six.
Associated with economy and efficiency (in sacred geometry this is represented by the hexagon) intellectual creativity, imagination, reconciliation, union, love, perfection. In the school of mystery, the number six connects above and below. Pretty exciting for a sign that appears to be as cool as a cucumber, yes?
Day of the Week: Friday.
The name Friday comes from the Old English Frīġedæġ, meaning the “day of Frige” a result of an old convention associating the Old English goddess Frigg with the Roman goddess Venus, with whom the day is associated in many different cultures.
Gemstone: Sapphire.
A stone of intuition and meditation. It can bring to light creative expression (good for artists and all creatives) and is also used to bring joy, peace, and fulfillment of dreams and prosperity.
Animal: Rabbit—intuition, creativity, learning to overcome fear.
Tarot Card: Justice—no surprise there.
In my experience Libra is incredibly charming and diplomatic. She puts those around her at ease and will try most times to make get-togethers harmonious and drama-free.
While the scales of balance may swing side to side at times, Libra will be focusing on bringing everything to a level of harmony. At times, Libra needs to step back and determine whether it is their responsibility to make peace or fix situations around them.
It would be better for Libra in the long run, as sensitive as they are to other people’s problems, to focus simply on their own needs. But that is a lesson hard learned as Libra strongly dislikes tension and all too quickly falls into the drama around them—peacemaker to the rescue.
While you may feel incredibly calm around Libra, as they have probably put your needs above their own, they will be suffering an internal struggle, absorbed in making you happy.
Libra’s always look good thanks to Venus who also rules Taurus. They have great taste to add to all that charm.
One mistake made with Libra’s is that until they reveal their temper, some great amount of time after you’ve known them, you will have been fooled into thinking that their feathers never ruffle and their anger never flares.
But sooner or later when their patience thins, you will be surprised that they do indeed, know how to express their displeasure. There won’t be any use in asking them where this well of emotion erupted from, Libra may have well slipped into a mood less than pleasant and blame you for creating their foul temper.
If you feel punished by the now moody, dark Libra, you are. It will take a little bit of time for them to find their calm place, all the while brooding over how you tipped their scales.
Libra is an air sign, intellectual and loving, but often incapable of decision.
They have a propensity for sitting on the fence about things, a decision a long time in coming, convincing themselves that they’re still weighing their options. Procrastination can be a problem for Libra.
In love, Libra rules, which is no surprise as they are constantly thinking about others instead of themselves. You’ll feel cared for, romanced, will be kissed to distraction, what’s not to love?
This kind of love however does not suit everyone. Libra can become suffocating if not careful. Rather than face being alone, Libra will try their best to relationships strong and alive. Should things fall to pieces, Libra will suffer through instead of ending the misery.
For Libra to find balance, she needs to find the kind of objectivity that serves justice and learn that not all situations can be fixed. It’s alright to walk away even if nothing has been resolved.
As lovers, they are attentive, and will charm the panties right off of you! But they do not like to be treated as sex objects and too much intensity can turn them off.
Libra is easy to take advantage of in romance. They are in love with love. They are keen on the idea of a soulmate. They are idealists who are easily hurt but who also hide their angst behind a well painted mask of well-being.
Unfortunately, Libra does not always learn from their mistakes and repeats love foibles with their heart on their sleeve—optimistic that their lover won’t hurt them again. Libra can only save themselves or hope for a partner who is not going to take advantage.
Ironically, Libra is not a push over in their career. Loving the good life, Libra will strive to excel at their work and hopefully the money will follow because Libra needs all the nice things.
Generous inheritance aside, Libra will work themselves raw to attain a pleasant life. I wonder how many Libra’s are inherently empaths, because a disharmonious work environment can make Libra literally sick, absorbing office squabbles into their sensitive hearts.
Libra can be incredibly formidable as a business opponent as long as things don’t come to a duel at dawn, in which case they may show up with a thermos of tea and a tin of cookies to try to make peace. Fire breathing dragons they are not when stakes get too high.
Being part of a copacetic, organized, team at work is best for Libra, so they can concentrate on their end of things and not have to worry too much about organization or difficult tasks beyond their abilities. Those things are best left to others, Libra will procrastinate until someone takes over and that will suit them just fine. As incredibly intelligent as Libra is, there are some things that just make them dig their heels in if not give up altogether.
The Libra’s that I know have a love affair with money–except that being said, money seems to filter away at an impossible speed, mixed with a propensity for hoarding their assets at other times. That’s not balance, my Libra friends, that is tipping the scales back and forth.
But I have yet to find a Libra who is not keen on figuring things out for themselves, spending a lifetime with the scales as their focus, determined to find what works for them. And I find this admirable, because there is not end of evolving for Libra. They are patient, and willing to study themselves until they are satisfied with the result.
For Libra, a life of excess rarely works. Too much indulgence in anything quickly results in weight gain, ill health (physical and mental) and another slide into putting of any kind of exercise regime or emotional self-control.
Wild fluctuations are ill advised for Libra who truly is miserable when balance is lost.
Getting back to center is something that cannot be put off. Charming, loving, sensible Libra is never too far away from craving the peace that should be theirs.
Meditation, music and yoga are incredibly effective balancers for Libra.
Want to know which sign is best with Libra?
You guessed it—Libra! They will understand and care for each other and have a lot of fun doing it. Aquarius and Gemini, Taurus and Leo are also great matches if Libra can keep their head and not give more than they should.
The only sign I’d caution Libra against is Scorpio. Scorpios are just not good for Libra in any way. Libra is not into losing control like Scorpio is and these two are just not going to understand each other. Best to leave it a steamy, temporary dalliance.
Libra has taught me that it’s just as important to seek balance as it is to attain it.
“No person, no place, and no thing has any power over us…for we are the only thinkers in our mind. When we create peace and harmony and balance in our minds, we will find it in our lives.” ~ Louise Hay
