Want to see how a fearless Democracy turns into an Authoritarian State? Here’s one sure sign.

“Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Stop covering politics, some of our dear readers cry every time we post something relephant. Look: politics are life. Equal rights, empathy, fair economy, healthcare. We can’t ignore what’s happening, and you shouldn’t either. ~ ed.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wonderful response to Trump’s ban of all people (not just refugees) from 7 countries: “Canada will welcome you,” Trudeau invites refugees as Trump bans them (thinkpol.ca)

Thank you, @justinpjtrudeau: ironically, this is America. 🇺🇸 President Trump has gone full-on un-American. This should be a black cloud, today, and yet it seems Many of us are complacent, helpless, hopeless. And yet we know that we can’t afford to stand aside and let this happen. This is outrageous—and ineffective. 🇺🇸 On elephantjournal.com’s front page, please read and share: “Want to see how a fearless Democracy turns into an Authoritarian State? “Calls to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. are offensive and unconstitutional.” ~ Mike Pence (see tweet here).

Drain the swamp? Nah: President Trump’s Muslim ban excludes countries linked to his sprawling business empire.

President Trump just went full-on un-American.

This should be a black cloud, today, and yet it seems Americans don’t care, much. We can’t afford to stand aside and let this happen. This is outrageous—and ineffective.

A green card is a legal form of permanent residency.

If this were truly about terrorism, not merely prejudice, Saudi Arabia would be on the banned list.

How can one American prohibit LEGAL PERMANENT US RESIDENTS from re-entering the country? Easy:

People holding so-called green cards, making them legal permanent U.S. residents, are included in President Donald Trump’s executive action temporarily barring people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States, a Department of Homeland security spokeswoman said on Saturday.

“It will bar green card holders,” Gillian Christensen, acting Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman, said in an email.

Reuters reports that homeland security spokesperson confirms that green card holders are included in the order. http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN15C0KX

“. . . I hereby proclaim that the immigrant and nonimmigrant entry into the United States of aliens from countries referred to in section 217(a)(12) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1187(a)(12), would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, and I hereby suspend entry into the United States, as immigrants and nonimmigrants, of such persons for 90 days from the date of this order (excluding those foreign nationals traveling on diplomatic visas, North Atlantic Treaty Organization visas, C-2 visas for travel to the United Nations, and G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4 visas).”

To conclude, via Reddit:

We’ve also never been attacked by any immigrants from any of these countries. The vetting process already in effect works, but to Trump voters who live in an alternate reality where our country is under siege and falling apart because of Obama, it has to be “fixed”.

“There’s literally no other point of banning these people than to create more fear and hate of immigrants and minorities. Hate in general to be frank. This will also create more hate of Trump and the government for innocent Muslims who can no longer see their families. Not to mention creating more hate from Muslims in these countries.

Imagine being an Iranian student in the US with a VISA, or a legal resident from Iran who has most of their family in Iran but over night can no longer see them. This is just terrible.

Who knows for what reason.

Maybe this is the beginning of the conditioning the citizens of the United States for an even greater atrocity.

If his agenda really was to make the United States safer from terrorists, he would have banned Saudi Arabia and UAE.”

Also Trump has business ties with SA

Saudi Arabia

Shortly after his presidential campaign got underway, according to his financial disclosures, Trump registered eight companies that could be related to a development project in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second-biggest city. “Saudi Arabia, I get along great with all of them. They buy apartments from me,” Trump said at a campaign rally. Four of the eight companies have since dissolved. In February 2016, Trump said Saudi Arabia “blew up the World Trade Center.” (Fifteen of the Sept. 11 hijackers were Saudi citizens.) Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Alsaud reminded Trump on Twitter that he had helped “bail” him out in the past; according to the New York Times, the prince agreed to take majority control of New York’s Plaza Hotel when Trump faced financial upheaval in the 1990s and also bought a Trump yacht when the President-elect’s Atlantic City casinos were struggling

I can’t believe some people still think the ban is only on refugees. It’s on all nationals of those countries. Trump ignores the fact that Congress then restricted this power in 1965, stating plainly that no person could be “discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth or place of residence.”

“He only wants to ban illegal immigrants and criminals!”

Ok you xenophobic f**ks, you can’t hide behind that sh*t now.
