We were born together and together shall we
Until the white wings of death scatter our days
Even at that the silent memory of God will keep us
For the space between us will allow the winds of heaven dance between us
Our love, a moving sea between the shores of our souls
Filling each other’s cup yet not drinking from one cup
Singing and dancing together, yet letting each other alone
For even the strings of a lute are alone yet quiver with the same music
Our hearts given to each other’s yet not in each other’s keeping
Standing together yet not too near together
For the pillars of the temple also stand apart
And the oak tree and cypress grow not in each other’s shadow
