At work, you need to be on top of your game every day. One way to improve your performance involves staying hydrated, which you can do in several easy ways.

Why you Need to Stay Hydrated

Water provides numerous benefits to your physical body.

Improves digestion.
Lubricates your joints.
Keeps your heart and muscles healthy.
Reduces fatigue, sweet cravings, headaches, and dry skin.

Proper hydration also affects your mind.

Improves alertness.
Boosts concentration.
Enhances cognitive performance.
Regulates mood.

These benefits all help you work smarter and harder, which is why you need to stay hydrated.

Track What you Drink

Instead of guessing at how much you drink each day, use an app to track your hydration. You’ll gain insight into how much, when and what you drink, and you can use that information to improve your hydration habits.

Keep a Water Bottle on your Desk

Before you start work, fill your water bottle, and refill it during the day. You’re more likely to drink enough water if it’s within easy reach. Sipping water throughout the day can also curb your food and soda cravings.

Visit the Watercooler

Walk to the watercooler several times a day for a refreshing drink. The drink break also boosts your brain power so you can get more work done when you return to your desk.

Drink Water with Lunch

Before and during your lunch break, drink at least one cup of water. You’ll feel fuller and will eat less, plus the water will improve your hydration.

Add Ice

Every little bit of water helps, so add ice to your beverages. When your water is cold, you may drink more, especially during the summer.

Sip Through a Straw

You may find that your water intake increases when you sip through a straw. That’s because it’s fun to use a colorful, bendable or crazy straw that matches your mood or personality, and you can be eco-friendly with a stainless steel straw.

Infuse Flavor into your Water

Create fun flavor combos when you infuse your water. Try lemon, lime or other fruit slices, veggies like cucumber, or basil, mint and other herbs to jazz up the taste of water and help you drink more.

Indulge in Coffee or Tea

If you find that you need a caffeine boost first thing in the morning or in the middle of the day, indulge in a cup of coffee or green tea. These beverages help you reach your daily water quota.

Blend a Smoothie

Use a personal blender in your office or the break room to create a delicious, healthy and hydrating smoothie. You can add yogurt and a variety of fruits and veggies to improve your nutrition, too.

Consume Coconut Water

Low in carbohydrates and rich in potassium, coconut water keeps you hydrated. Its unique taste also compliments smoothies, or you can drink it plain.

Snack on Fruit

Fruits with a high liquid content help you stay hydrated. Bring oranges, melons, kiwi, strawberries, watermelon, bananas, grapes, or peaches to enjoy during your snack breaks. You can also grab fruit between video business presentation sales calls, during meetings, or with your lunch.

Eat More Veggies

A variety of vegetables with high water content help you stay hydrated. Pack celery, carrots or baby tomatoes for snack time, buy a lunch salad loaded with lettuce, cucumber and cauliflower, or pack vegetable soup.

Avoid Dehydrating Foods and Beverages

Some foods and beverages actually dehydrate you, especially if they contain sugar, which uses a large amount of water during metabolism. Stay away from processed foods, sweetened beverages and alcohol to improve your hydration.

Set an Alarm

Because it’s easy to forget to drink as you focus on your video editing, copywriting or retail sales tasks, set an alarm on your phone. It reminds you every 20 minutes or so to take a drink.

You’re more likely to work smarter and harder when you stay hydrated. Use these easy tips to boost the amount of water you consume each day. You’ll notice an immediate improvement in your performance.
