I am a legally blind painter. Yup, you read that right. Sometimes the prospect of becoming a completely blind painter gets me down. Sometimes, it just makes me giggle. Clearly, the cosmos has a sense of humor. (Albeit a little twisted.)
I had this long set-up spiel laid out, about food, the environment, experiments in identifying paint colors by smell (That didn’t end well.), and the fifty million things I am trying to accomplish, and how that can lead to taking life way too seriously, but here’s the bottom line.
This universe is nuts, in the best and most amazing ways, so you may as well enjoy yourself. Notice how unselfconscious small children are when they try new things. They go all in, not thinking about potential embarrassment. They don’t worry about looking foolish until we teach them that looking foolish is bad.
Try that dance class, make that crazy recipe. As Julia Cameron writes, have the humility to be a beginner. Fumble, stumble, and get back up. Find the humor, warped as it may be. Laughter is good for your outlook, your soul and your abs. A great deal gets accomplished with seemingly little effort when merriment abounds. So live it up. None of us are getting out of here alive anyway.
“Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.” -Anonymous-
