I did it. I bought those obnoxious bright pink Wunder Unders from Lululemon.
What can I say, I am tired of feeling like a black pant wearing drone. Don’t get me wrong, I still wear black, but don’t you sometimes feel like you just want to burst out of that dark, dingy, boring box?
When I saw these pants posted on the Robson St. Lululemon Facebook I thought, “Finally, something different, something bold and bright.” Less than 24hrs later I was on a mission, I had to have these now! The next thing I knew I was getting up early in the morning, heading over a bridge into Vancouver; I avoid both those things at all costs, and rushed into Lululemon where I immediately headed for the wall of pants.
There they were on the mannequin, shining brightly for all the world to see…I paused to admire them, angels began singing in the background and I slowly; with care, reached for my size.
My initial urge was to go bolting for the dressing room, screaming & waving them in the air with excitement but alas; so as not to seem like a complete weirdo, I decided to meander around the store attempting to appear interested in another piece or two. Finally after what felt like forever, I coolly, calming and somewhat collectively, headed over to the dressing room in which; thank the good God, there was no line up.
As I stepped into the the dressing room, I felt as though I was Clark Kent in a phone booth getting ready to strip off my outer layer so that I could put on what was truly comfortable, what was truly me.
Once on, I proudly stepped out of the dressing room to get a better look and just as I am sure Superman got a few strange looks debuting his spandex and cape, I got a few disapproving glances…Although I felt like a super hero; my chest all puffed out and proud, I have to admit, I looked more more like Malibu Barbie than someone who could save the world. I chuckled to myself and thought, “Meh, so be it, I am blonde after all, I can totally rock that look!”.
I went back into the dressing room and put on my boring black pants all the while holding onto my Malibu Barbie secret identity with pride, exiting the room with a smile on my face and telling the attendant, “Yes, everything worked out great”.
As I paid for my lovely bit of bright pink sunshine, I was drawn back to an important thought, “Be You“.
Shine bright, love fully, smile often & dance to your hearts content; if any pair of pants will follow me in this journey, these are the ones.
