I first fell in love with Desmond Tutu’s sweet, impish (as Barack Obama put it), childlike, delighted, yet caring spirit when I watched a documentary about his loving, childlike friendship with the Dalai Lama. I recommend it to you. Do not let a spirit such as this pass through history, past you, into the forgetful mists of history.

RIP. Archbishop of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Desmond Tutu said there is no longer any excuse for not doing everything humanly possible to fight climate change and called for an international “anti-apartheid-style boycott” against the fossil fuel industry.

“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.” ~ Desmond Tutu

Archbishop Desmond Tutu: “I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say ‘sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place.’ I would not worship a God who is homophobic.”

“When the missionaries came to Africa they had the Bible and we had the land. They said ‘Let us pray.’ We closed our eyes. When we opened them, we had the Bible and they had the land.” ~ Desmond Tutu
