Rent it/Netflix Streaming recommendation of the week: Heartbreaker with Romain Duris & a gap-toothed Vanessa Paradis.
I’m not a big believer in Romantic Comedies.
They sell a sort of happily ever after cliché-ridden saccharine-sweet too-too-trite love that isn’t human.
They are to relationships what cult gurus are to spirituality: they sell a perfect sort of fantasy that almost always turns out to be hollow at the core.
But…once in awhile it’s fun to eat a lot of farmers’ market salad and flowers you can eat with raisins and EV organic olive oil and sea salt and expensive dijon and if it’s in French, well, at least you can tell yourself it’s reminding you of a sort of love you haven’t experienced in what, now, nearly seven years, and before that 10 years, and you’re not sure you’ll ever feel it again.
Because goddamn, you don’t believe in RomComs, and you aren’t sure if you believe in love, either.
Got Netflix? Watch it now, or just after making too much salad.

En Francais (spoiler alert, I guess, don’t watch it if you haven’t seen it)
