Every night the moon shined bright
It wasn’t enough to just keep it in sight
This child had to see if what he thought was true
“Can I really catch the moon?”
He turned his head back to the sky
Always keeping a watchful eye
He wouldn’t let the moon just rest
He had to try a simple test
“I will catch the moon!”
How cute to his mother he was
With the curls on his head
When they bounced around with the words he said
“I will catch the moon tonight.
It shines so big and shines so bright”
He couldn’t let the moon just rest
He had to put his theory to the test
Outside his home he ran so far
He ran as fast as a shooting star
He ran until he realized
That this moon was not to be his prize
“Mommy, why can’t I catch the moon tonight?”
“It shines so big and shines so bright
But the moon will have to rest in the sky tonight”
He wasn’t sad
Nor was he mad
And he made his mother glad
“One day you will catch the moon
But it isn’t yours to keep
It shines so big and shines so bright
But the magic of the moon
Is beyond you tonight.”
“When you grow wise and realize
That you can’t keep the love
That nature offers to yourself inside
You will see your love in another’s eyes
You must not try to catch the moon
For its love for all
Is what makes it a worthy prize.”
“I love you and you love me
And in time you will see
There is a moon out there for you
And it’s meant to reflect your light
When you find the moon for you
Its smile will shine so big and bright”
