A poem inspired after watching my daughter play high school soccer and not being recognized for her excellence.

A Mother’s Perspective From the Sidelines of the Soccer Field.

A Mom’s Narrative

From the game face of determination,

To the concentration on loosening the body with
‎warm-up calisthenics

‎From the tap of the ball
and the drive to get it in the goal

‎ To the elbow shoved into the well endowed chest

‎Or the sneaky strenuous tug of a jersey

and the outright, undeniable trip, that doesn’t get called

‎or slide tackle that scrubs the skin off like sandpaper

‎ ‎From every drop of blood
‎ and bruised skin

‎To every leap into the air to stop a torpedo kicked ball

‎For every sprint of 25 yards or
‎more

‎For every blow to the body from a cleat that was intended for a
‎ball

‎To every mid air collisions with another body

‎For every cheer made from a spectator to be faster, strong, smarter, better

‎To the face riddled with exhaustion

As you watch your child grasp the bottom of her shorts with her head tilted to the sky,

with sweat pouring down her face and eyes begging to bring home the “W”

Till the FINAL whistle blows

And you’re released from that levitated bubble of fear that YOUR child could have experienced a life altering incident….

To have such effort put out

and NOT be acknowledged for the 110% she put forth

Is
well…..
Deflating
Offensive and
Hurtful

As a mom… you feel EVERY BIT OF IT.
