1911 is a 2011 Chinese historical drama film about the 1911 Revolution in China produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the revolution.
Directed by Jackie Chan and Zhang Li, it stars Chan in his 100th film as an actor, along with other performers such as Winston Chao, Li Bingbing, Joan Chen, Hu Ge, and Chan’s son Jaycee Chan.
1911 received mostly negative reviews from Western film critics, who criticized its unflattering depiction of the revolution but praised its cinematography.
According to Rotten Tomatoes reviews, 1911 generally received negative reviews from Western film critics, it holds an 8% rating.
1911 Revolution movie synopsis
The story follows the key events of the 1911 Revolution, focusing on Huang Xing and Sun Yat-sen. It begins with the Wuchang Uprising of 1911.
Then the story continues with historical events such as the Second Guangzhou Uprising on April 27, 1911, the death of 72 martyrs. Sun Yat-sen, who brought China to the gates of liberalism, was elected interim president of the new Provisional Republic of China.
This also marked the abdication of the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty Puyi on February 12, 1912, and Yuan Shikai became the new interim president in Beijing on March 10, 1912.
