I’m spending the weekend with my partner in crime, Emily Nuchols, at the Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride. We’ve got beautiful weather, great films and some amazing people.
We’ll be bringing you a couple of live updates throughout the weekend.

We kicked things off with beautiful weather and great food on Thursday night for the Filmmaker’s Dinner. Then Friday we dove in head first with our symposium. A special thanks to all of the symposium speakers and our emcee, Josh Bernstein.
Extinction Crisis was a difficult subject to tackle, but the symposium ended up leading to some moving, educational and inspirational discussions. Here are some of our favorite quotes from the symposium:
“Documentaries are the most powerful weapon in the world… I call them weapons of mass construction. – Louie Psihoyos
“If we’re not aware of what we’re doing, we’re not going to change our action.” – Maya Lin
“Don’t give up, ’cause despair sucks.” – Rick Ridgeway
There were a lot of great things said, and you can check them all out over on Mountainfilm’s Twitter feed.
It’s pretty inspirational to be surrounded by so many people that are passionate and truly believe in what they’ve do. In just a couple of days we’ve chatted with Chris Jordan, the folks from iLCP, Tim DeChristopher, the team from Freedom to Roam and many more.
It’s festivals like these that remind us that it is possible to make positive change, and we can’t stop taking everyday actions to ensure that we do so.
For my first film, I checked out Gasland, a powerful and scary piece. In fact it brought tears to my eyes. When the film’s director took the stage for a Q&A at the end and brought up some of the individuals that had been interviewed in the documentary, you could feel the energy in the room. Everyone gathered around one cause and ready to fight, which certainly made the festival feel like, what Festival Director David Holbrooke calls, “an activist festival.” That’s an inspiring thing to take part of and we’re honored to be here.
We’ll be bringing you more from the festival throughout the weekend so keep an eye out!
