elephant’s Waylon Lewis just won Treehugger’s Best of Green Ambassador Reader’s Choice, nationally, woot!
From paper hero to online zero to new media hero, elephant magazine (2002-8) becomes elephantjournal.com (2009), loses staff and offices and advertisers, wins national Shorty Award in #green twitter content, gains 14K fans on Facebook (2010)…
Stays alive. Next step, thrive.
That’s the good news.
The bad news is that after Treehugger [TH] asked voters to vote once a day (a savvy traffic play) for a month or so, and after many of the grassroots nominees featured TH’s badge on their site (free advertising for TH)…Treehugger awarded both a Reader’s Choice (which Waylon won, based on votes) and an Editor’s Pick prize to Colin Beavan. Our editor—who garnered the most votes nationally—got a half sentence “Reader’s Choice” footnote.
Let’s be clear: we’re huge fans of TH, who has done more than anyone to export green journalism and values to the masses, and we’re fans of Colin Beavan, a great writer who surely deserved the award more than our boy (he’s wayyy more famous, connecting with millions beyond the green choir).
