“It ain’t a crime to be good to yourself.”
As you might imagine, this week’s playlist was a big hit in class. Lots of cheers and giggles every time a new tune would begin. The problem, however, was trying to find some grain of insight that I could write about for the weekly blurb, something in keeping with the strength, love and enlightenment our practice brings us. Not an easy task, as most of these songs are about getting drunk or getting laid. But if there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s finding value where seemingly little value exists (I think my overall appreciation of Whitesnake is proof of that). So I listened to the playlist one more time, determined to find a grain of truth, and KISS obliged with the line:
“It ain’t a crime to be good to yourself.”
Again, I acquiesce that he is no doubt singing about getting drunk or getting laid, but being good to oneself, my friends, is precisely why we do yoga, isn’t it?
There you have it. Be good to yourself today.
Even if today that means enjoying some of the cheesiest (albeit catchiest) songs of the 80s.
Namaste.
