When I was little, my sister and I used to say the phrase, “Is your baby a Gerber baby?”, in a funny British accent to each other. We had no idea what it meant, but we found it entertaining.
Years later, I was scrolling the inter-webs and stumbled upon this photo. I never realized the Gerber Baby was a real baby. I figured the baby was a sketch of an idealized child with big beautiful eyes.
Turns out, Ann Turner Cook is the woman behind the well-known baby.
And you can still see it in her face.
“Ann Turner Cook (born November 20, 1926) is an American mystery novelist, who was the model for the familiar Gerber Baby artwork seen on baby-food packages of the Gerber Products Company.”
