For Those of Us Who are Too Hard on Ourselves. {Poem}

front porch

In his mirror

I liked who I saw.

I stood up to monsters.

I hoisted myself up

and shook off.

I bounced down the stairs,

exiting the front porch

where I’d settled

as her doormat.

Freedom

looked good on me.

I celebrated my courage

with high fives

and adventure.

A quick peek

in his mirror

was all it took,

to remind me

to be smart

and beautiful.

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.” ~ E. E. Cummings
