I was just sitting here reflecting on the tragedy in Nepal, and the anger and frustration in Baltimore and basically…just how f*cked up life can be sometimes.
Then my wife Jenn came in the room and told me to look outside and this is what I saw.
It didn’t magically make everything better. I didn’t have some love and light moment. But it did help to quiet my mind and bring some balance and perspective.
Life is f*cked up. And life is beautiful.
It’s terrifying and amazing and, well, that’s what life is—both the grace and the grit. And standing in the middle of all of this beauty and insanity, I remind myself that my actions are my only true belongings. That today, in my very own small and insignificant way, I can do something to make this world a better place.
What that looks like varies from day to day, and some days are better than others, but each day I’m blessed to be alive and make that choice. Life is f*cked up. And life is beautiful. But more than both of those things combined, life is a gift…and my actions are my only true belongings.
May all beings know freedom from suffering.
