I recently heard this hauntingly beautiful duet at the end of an already amazing yoga class.
As the class rested, meditating in savasana, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing—it was a seamless mashup of Rihanna and Mikky Ekko’s “Stay” and Miike Snow’s “Animal,” sung by two women with the voices of goddesses.
I was so moved by the perfect, gentle beauty of the music that I began to cry. I choke up every time I hear it.
I especially love that the two original songs, which are both great in their own right, are nothing alike. It shows us that there is so much beauty in unexpected combinations.
The song demonstrates very tangibly that in so many ways, we are greater than the sum of our parts. When different, seemingly opposite things come together in the spirit of creating something new, miracles can happen.
The song, for me, is a lovely metaphor for these much needed life lessons.
Thank you to Jessica Rotter and Emily Colombier, and all of their accompanying musicians, for this masterpiece.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. Yoga teachers, this is a wonderful addition to your playlists.
