Do you think about your breath throughout the day? You should!
Whenever we find ourselves in tense or stressful situations our breath becomes short and restricted, which creates tension in the body and in turn increases the stress we are experiencing. Directing your awareness back to the breath and learning how to slow it down is the most valuable thing.
The next time you’re in a stressful situation, take a moment to bring your awareness to your breath. Breathe in an out of the nose, and draw the breath down toward the bottom of your lungs, feeling them expand. As you exhale do so slowly, mindfully emptying the lungs again.
Continue this slow, mindful breathing until you feel your mind steadying and your body beginning to relax.
