Some of my absolute best childhood memories are from snow days.
There are few better feelings in the world than waking up to the magic of an unexpected two-foot dump of snow. It’s just as exciting as Christmas morning.
This is how it would usually go down. We’d wake up to a ton of snow, cross our fingers that school was cancelled, then Mom would make a call to the school district, hopefully confirming our day of freedom. If we indeed hit the snow day lottery, we’d explode with joy, freedom!
Our snow day plans were usually simple.
We’d cuddle up on the couch with blankets and hot chocolate, watch Star Wars, or The Little Mermaid, or whatever old VHS tape we could find. We’d get bundled up and play in the snow and make giant snow forts in the front yard. This routine was on repeat throughout the day.
I’m 37 now, and the excitement of a snow day turns me right back into a little kid. Here’s a whimsical video of my adventures in the Colorado snow, channeling elementary aged Ryan.
