For better or for worse, much of life is about getting back what we give.
If we eat poorly we get sick.
If we don’t exercise our minds and bodies then our muscles weaken.
If we act out of anger and frustration then people will respond in kind.
If we act out of kindness they will respond in kind with kindness.
So, if we want our world to have more kindness, more acceptance, more patience and more love, than we must start acting kind, accepting others, practicing patience and extending love.
It’s a simple process and that is what is so wonderful about it. Sure, sometimes we just get handed a raw deal and there is no doubt about the suffering that exists in the world, but there is no conspiracy. The world is not doomed—not if we can still do something about it—and people aren’t essentially evil.
A lot of these clichés about the state of our world and who we are have been sowed by the media and by us on social media—paranoia and fear can seep out from their source and colour places they don’t really belong.
We have a simple choice. We can choose to buy into the clichés, the fear and everything that comes with it, or we can choose to buy into love. The more we choose love, and act out of love, the more love will seep out into the places where it is needed—building a world that is brighter, more hopeful place, full of possibilities for growth.
The choice and the power and the responsibility is yours. Ours, Mine.
