Walk the Talk Show with Waylon Lewis presents elephant journal live:
“Gain and victory to others; loss and defeat to myself.”
Thanks to everyone who participated in today’s Facebook Live discussion. We had some great dialogue about family dynamics and working with difficult relatives. 🙂 As Waylon said, “News at 11: everyone’s family is nuts.”
We really appreciate the genuine open-hearted engagement from all of you. We’re all learning how to be more authentic people, more mindful communicators, and as a result we will change our world for the better.
Here are some of the questions that Waylon offered advice on today:
My adult daughter suffers with drug addiction. While I can deal mindfully with most difficult situations, she knows how to push my “buttons.” Any suggestions for help to be more mindful with family that really pushes your buttons, but you don’t want to completely cut out of your life?
I have a very difficult family. How you live with them? They are overprotective and really abusive, they use my weaknesses and insecurities against me /: I can’t move out yet so I don’t know how I can deal with this. I believe I am losing a let of experiences because of my parents
I lost my dad in December and my mom last week. I had been proud of my siblings and myself for working so well together taking care of my mom the past several months–each of us taking on different responsibilities. But now I’m concerned that we’ll fall apart as a family.
How do you deal with intense favoritism and narcissism in the family?
Waylon, what are your thoughts on having an immediate family member whom is toxic to daily mindfulness? My relationship with my father is truly strained as he is a racist and tend to exemplify everything Buddhism does not…he even goes so far as to tell me my religion is a farce. I hope you get to this question as I’m currently in the hospital for an MRI…if I cannot watch the rest, I’ll watch the video later this evening. Thanks in advance!
And there’s a lot more!
