*Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, is one of the oldest sciences on the planet and considered a relative of astronomy. It is an important and valuable part of the ancient Vedic texts. This complex, logic-based and also intuitive science, has survived thousands of years in India’s Vedic tradition and is still considered a highly valuable tool of guidance and life insight. It is not a religion, but rather a philosophical understanding of human and cosmic existence. In Sanskrit, jyoti means light. Essentially, the study of jyotish is the study of light and how we interact with the cosmic light—within us and within the cosmos. Vedic astrology, or the sidereal approach to astrology, casts charts differently than Western, or Tropical astrology. The meanings, implications and purpose of jyotish is therefor different, as are the details used for prediction and the indications given below.
*Eleditor’s note: Astrology isn’t a religion. We’re not sure it’s a science, either. It’s magic, maybe. But, as with feng shui, say, things affect things. So as long as we don’t go blaming our problems on the stars, as long as we assume responsibility for our own actions…well, hell, a little auspicious coincidence and applicable wisdom can’t hurt. And so, with that grain of salt…enjoy!
Jupiter transits Virgo from August 11th 2016 to September 11th 2017.
Jupiter transits are one year long and impact all levels of wisdom, knowledge, comfort and support.
He leads you to your dharmic path and supports the nourishment gained along the way.
Positive effects of Jupiter—or Guru in Sanskrit—bring comfort, support and understanding. Challenges with Jupiter include lack of support, knowledge, and dharma. Everyone can benefit from the helpful and supportive resources that Jupiter provides
The past year, Jupiter has transited through Leo. Half of this transit he has been conjunct Rahu. These energies oppose each other in dramatic ways. It has been a conflict between light and dark forces on multiple levels—effecting ego, power, the masculine as well as father issues and relationships.
As Jupiter moves out of Leo, he also moves away from Rahu, releasing and finalizing much of the masculine conflicts that have been unleashed in the past few months. Rahu will continue to work your ego, masculine and power issues acutely, but Jupiter can now offer his stability and support on a mental body level as he transits through Mercury’s sign, Virgo, in the coming year.
Virgo carries with it the effects of the sixth house of healing and provides qualities of this challenging, yet dynamic house. The sixth house notoriously causes conflict, challenge and battles. It is the house of enemies—yet through enemies you can learn, grow and awaken your biggest shadows. Debts and financial challenges are also seen by the sixth house.
Communication is a key theme for this Jupiter transit. Speaking is especially impacted by this transit as well as the voice, singing and by default music. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication—verbal, written and creative. He is highly creative and supports all of the arts, including the healing arts. Virgo brings healing through creativity, connection and co-creation.
Expanded Creativity and Self Expression
As Virgo connects to the sixth house of healing and the mental body, it is also a prime opportunity to heal and transform any blockages or limiting beliefs keeping you from bringing your desires into form. This includes financial and monetary blockages. Debts and the limiting beliefs connected to your lack, scarcity and resistance to being nourished must be addressed more closely.
There is a lot of expansion available with creativity, healing and manifesting in this cycle. What support and guidance is missing for you right now? Where are you stuck, resistant, avoiding or neglecting your dreams, visions and creativity?
The lower gut will be a primary focus for healing and transforming challenges into resources.
Use the wisdom of your stomach to support this process and help you awaken and heal more fully. Clean up diet and what you ingest. Be mindful of your relationship with excess and seek healing support for old shadows that emerge around nourishment.
Virgo brings to the light purification and puritanical beliefs. Jupiter’s sattvic nature can also increase puritanical belief systems, mythologies around perfection and shadows that perpetuate idealism.
Jupiter is spiritual, while Virgo is more centered around the human, mundane part of existence. Thus the integration and balance between spiritual and material realms will continue to inspire and invoke personal development and healing for all this year. What does your perfection tell you about your needs for safety and support?
Watch for overly idealistic attitudes and dogmas that keep you locked in unrealistic mindsets that perpetuate scarcity. It’s time to look at these beliefs and dogmas that are holding you back.
Look out for spiritual bypassing and where you are avoiding chaos and messiness. Use this cycle to get into right-relationship with your shadow and light in a more integrated and balanced way.
If Jupiter is a natural benefic in your chart, this transit will bring natural gains, expansion and support in the areas of healing, creativity, commerce and communication. However, If Jupiter is challenging in your jyotish chart, expect difficulties in these areas of your life to surface. Depending on where Virgo is situated in your chart, there may or may not be mitigating factors. I will share general guidelines for each sign in my horoscopes below.
