You wore your sadness like a cloak.
No weight to bear you down
Shimmering light lifting from within.
Eyes brimming with tears you pleaded
With me to make you laugh.
But how? What tall order is this?
Comedian on demand?
To bring forth laughter from tears ?
I am no alchemist,
No two bit fair raise.
I do not know how to please on demand.
And yet…
And yet…
Those smiling eyes,
So tired and sad;
Saddle bags packed with
The newness of heartbreak.
I can’t stand to see
The pack train leave
Without another on the string.
And so…
I trail along, plodding
As horses do,
Picking one single wildflower
At a time.
A glimmer,
A laugh,
A sparkle,
A shine,
Making a bouquet;
Humoring the wilderness
With the bewilderment
Of being human.
