“I had to do it this way. I had no choice.”
How many times have we each uttered that statement?
Now, how many times was it complete, utter bullsh*t?
We always, always have a choice.
In life, we are given choices each day—from little decisions, like what to eat for breakfast, to big life decisions, like where we want to live, what work we want to do, and even what kind of people we want to surround ourselves with.
Every day, we are living, making choices, and choosing again.
I believe there are no wrong choices—it is up to us to make a decision with the background of all our past choices. No one is holding a gun to our head to be the same person we were yesterday, last week, or last year.
Even in the scariest of circumstances, we can always choose. We can choose to stay, we can choose to change, or we can choose to walk away.
To say that we do not have a choice is to relinquish the acknowledgement of our autonomy, and to deflect blame on someone else. It’s easy to say, “I can’t do that because this person is making me do this thing instead,” or “I can’t do this because I have to follow this person’s advice”—but it is our choice to let someone else lead our lives.
It’s always up to us.
In a miserable relationship? Hate your job? Bored by the city you live in? Choose differently.
Don’t believe you’re worthy of love, magic, or success? Choose to believe differently.
Challenge yourself to drop the struggle.
Choose ease.
You deserve to live a life you love.
Walking away from choices that no longer serve us is not always easy though. The moments of recalibration are often ones filled with the most uncertainty—and uncertainty can make us uncomfortable.
Choosing to trust the process, regardless of whether it seems to be working or not, allows us to be confident in our choices and believe that no matter what, we will be taken care of to the highest possible level.
Choices can be as simple as a “yes” or “no” in the moment.
But we must first ask ourselves this: Are the choices I’m making today the most loving ones for myself?
If the answer is no, choose differently.
Because we all deserve to live a life filled with unbounded possibility.
