Los Angeles-based artist, Colette Miller, continues to span the globe with her Angel Wing Project. Her angel wings are in over a dozen countries (and growing) and she has painted almost 100 pairs of life-size angel wings touching the lives of millions of people.
Starting in 2012, Miller painted life-size angel wings on buildings in areas of Los Angeles that were racked with human sorrow and without city approval. While walking the streets and feeling the sorrow in areas of the city, the idea of the angel wings came to her as a way for people to stand in front of them and, for just a brief moment, feel their strength and power. Since then she has painted over 30 pairs of wings throughout the city with the city’s support.
“We all come from goodness,” confesses Miller, “even though we may be damaged from life experience.” Miller wants these wings to remind people of their true-self and that we are all, in fact, angels on earth.
After the phenomenon she saw in Los Angles, she was invited to Kenya. This was a very profound trip, where she saw first hand the power of her wings in a country where children and women protection, as well as other humanitarian efforts, are lacking. Although not all places are wrought with human suffering and plight, each location is a testament to Miller wanting to bring a touch of divinity to where there may be human pain and suffering.
Her message is simple, striking and strong.
Never did Miller imagine when she started this project that, with the popularity of smartphones and social media, Miller’s hundreds fof thousands of followers would make the Global Angel Wings Project her calling in life. And to her delight, the selfies and sharing of photos on social media have made this world even that much more connected by each span of wings she paints. I have been able to see the world by following her wings and what a beautiful sight it is!
