How to Make Friends with Self-Sabotage.

We all have one, that little voice inside us that screams not so nice commands from time to time. My voice began screaming at me the moment I decided I wanted to start my own business. I can honestly stand here and claim I am a chronic self-sabotager!

I can remember it so vividly, I was enjoying an afternoon walk when it hit, my mission in life is to support other women who are experiencing depression and anxiety. Through the many years of study and planning for my business, I wasn’t aware of how strong self-sabotage can hit.

Had I heard the word before? Yes. Had I taken any notice of what it was? No. I never realised just how tight the grip can be when it comes to self-sabotage. Knowing what I know now, I can honestly describe it as being suffocated by your own thoughts.

I had always mistaken Self-Sabotage as my thoughts and feelings being protective of me, and while I still believe it is a form of protection, I now know that it is okay to go against these thoughts and achieve what it I desire wholeheartedly.

Taking back my power from Self-Sabotage was not easy. Still to this day I need to be proactive and aware of my thoughts on a daily basis and connect with my higher self to recognise and act on these thoughts and feelings.

How did I journey from being a victim of my own self-sabotage to thriving and glowing each day?

Hire a coach

That’s right I hired myself a coach. The power in this one action as truly catapulted me to success in so many ways. I have clear awareness of when I am in the business of self-sabotaging every little step that I need to take in achieving my deepest desires. Once the window was cleaned and I could see just how much I was allowing self-sabotage to shine in it allowed me to connect with what self-sabotage meant for me personally and what the tell-tale signs were when I was about to actively self-sabotage myself. If you feel a coach is a perfect fit for you, I invite you to do some research and find a coach that you can connect and feel safe with.

Confront Self-Sabotage Head On

Allow yourself to feel what self-sabotage is doing to you on a mind, body and soul level. What feelings are you experiencing? Where are you feeling these within your body? What are the exact thoughts you are having? A big learning curb for me was getting to know that self-sabotage actually lures me back into those low and anxious mood states. I literally want to give up on my goals, my mission, because self-sabotage wants to keep me comfortable and cosy in my current environment. I can understand you wanting to do this self-sabotage but this gal wants a life where she can thrive and glow!

Unfollow on Social Media

Hello comparisonitis! Hands up if you’re guilty of looking at the glossy and glamorous photos on social media and then finding yourself saying: Oh, I can’t do this because I’m not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, all the enough’s. I know I have had my fair share of this. I would always look at someone’s post and think how they have it made, they are exactly where I wish I was, insert all the excuses here. To support myself and limit these overwhelming and deflating thoughts, I simply clicked the unfollow or unfriend button. Doing this doesn’t mean you don’t support the person or love what they are sharing in the world, it just means you are putting yourself first. I found when I would unfollow or unfriend someone, if I really connected with why I felt triggered by them, I could overcome it and then follow or friend them again, this time without any harsh words or comparison on my part.

Meditation and Oracle Cards

Meditation or soul conversations as I like to call it, is such a great way to connect with yourself on a deeper, more fulfilling level. I have found that when self-sabotage decides to pop in and say hello, sitting quietly and in stillness allows for me to really immerse myself into what it is that I’m trying to protect myself from. Connecting with my soul to uncover past experiences that may have built a block to allow me to move on to the next level I’m trying to create within my life. I also love to draw a card from one of my oracle decks and connect to the meaning of the card that is drawn. I invite you to research and find a deck of oracle cards that truly resonate with you on a heart and soul level.

Mama Nature

The beauty of mama nature! Soothing to the soul and energising to the heart. We truly are so grateful to have the powerful Mama Nature by our side through everything that we may endure. Stepping out, barefoot, onto lush green grass or feeling the sand between your toes, sitting in a crystal clear freshwater creek and allowing the flow of pure, clean water vibrate over your body is super powerful for clearing your mind and supporting your deepest desires. We are all worthy of achieving what our heart desires and when negativity steps in its great to be able to step away and allow mama nature to lovingly bestow love over us, letting us know that we are worthy and above all else we are always held and loved.

I wish you well in making friends with Self-Sabotage and your journey ahead.
