Loves,
Be great at letting all of the nooks and crannies of your humanness take up space.
Be great at letting your words shout and mourn and lament their losses and express all the ways that grief has swallowed them whole—even the small griefs that feel big and so are, like the incremental heartbreaks of texts gone unanswered.
Be great at trying.
Be great at showing up to the canvas of your life and saying, show me what you’ve got today.
Be great at being reborn and transformed.
Be great at calling your spirit home, year after year, from where you laid it down.
And be great at stillness.
Be great at accepting that, in life, nothing is carved in stone and that what is today will be washed downriver tomorrow, returned to the ocean of reality where we all inevitably find ourselves swimming, sinking, or surfing—sometimes all in the same day.
Be great at remembering that only this moment matters. As great as you are at remembering that none of this really does.
Be great at celebrating everything you create on that canvas for it is your only map home.
Be great at loading up, at stepping up, into the street at high noon with the devil inside and being quicker to the draw.
Be great at following your feelings. At sitting down with them in a field of wildflowers and letting them know you have all the time in the world to get it right. And that you’ll keep listening even if you don’t.
Be great at witnessing the soft vulnerable underbelly of humanity and the armor and cruelty we’ve built to protect it.
Be great at keeping your eyes wide and goddamn open enough to witness it all—and brave enough to stay open and share all the colours within that only your soul can see.
Be great at chasing the sun and standing next to those who’ve caught it.
Be just as great at standing next to those who haven’t, and may never.
Be great at the everyday.
Be great at keeping the song of your heart tuned into what really matters like sweeping the deck in the spring sunshine, brushing your teeth in the shower with your lover, feeling your true pulse again after giving up the bright lights that blind you from it in place of being really seen.
Be great at all this and you will be great.
Be great at all of this and you will hold the space your soul needs to steadily, sometimes rebelliously, remember its own greatness—its softness and its strength—as it releases all that is not its truth.
This is what it really means to be f*cking great.
Now,
All you have to remember is that to be great, one need only be so.
And that you already are.
