Whether you’re working, or working towards a goal, it’s important to take the occasional break. Breaks help to restore motivation, increase creativity, and boost productivity. They can also have physical and emotional benefits. Some of us find it difficult to take a break, so here are 15 suggestions to get you started:
- Light a scented candle. Enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy while relaxing or revitalizing. Be sure to use a soy or beeswax candle with an organic cotton wick.
- Get outside. Whether that’s sitting on the porch for a few minutes or walking around the block, change your setting and breathe in the fresh air.
- Do some gentle stretches to get your blood flowing and improve flexibility.
- Doodle! Use colored pencils, crayons, or non-toxic markers.
- Write down three things that you’re grateful for.
- Have a healthy snack. Eat slowly and savor every bite.
- Listen to music. Choose a slower song if you want to relax or an upbeat song for energy – dance if you’d like!
- Read a poem. If you’ve got a poetry book, great. If not, the internet has plenty to offer.
- Watch something funny. Another reason why the internet is wonderful; there’s always something cut or silly to laugh at.
- Go through old photos. Reminisce about your adventures.
- Wash your face. Apply an eco-friendly face mask for bonus points!
- Take a moment to observe your surroundings. Look at everything with fresh eyes. You never know what you’ll notice.
- Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat. There are a variety of breathing techniques but sticking to the basics works just fine.
- Phone a friend or family member. It’s important to maintain relationships with loved ones and it’s too easy to lose touch at times.
- Solve a puzzle. Anything you enjoy – a crossword, sudoku, etcetera.
Which of these are you most likely to try? What’s your favorite way to take a break?
