Sex Strike

“Alyssa Milano calls for women to withhold sex in protest of Georgia’s abortion law.”

I’ve been seeing this headline a lot on Social Media.
And I know that it has been used in the past as a form of protest.
I have a very hard time with this. We all should.

1) as a woman who really loves sex, I don’t understand it. Why would I do that to myself?
2) why would I do that to my intimate relationship? It’s not intimacy if only one is giving and only one is getting from sex. Is that the balance you have? you want?
3) this plays into so much yuck that it’s hard for me even to do enough backstory information on this. Up through the 50s it was often advised that women should just grin and bear it. This fits right into that tired meme.

I love my orgasms! This idea that we give sex to get some thing is long past broken. This idea prostitutes women… again. As a Crone, I know I come from a different era, the era of the 70s when we fought our asses off to be barely recognized as human beings rather than slaves of the workplace, office, and home. I know that we are all “pro sex worker” now, I get the point of that as safety and justice,

but NO, SEX IS NOT A COMMODITY. Sex is not a commodity.

SEX IS NOT A COMMODITY
SEX IS NOT A TOOL
SEX IS NOT A MANIPULATION
SEX IS NOT A TRUMP CARD
SEX IS NOT A NEGOTIATION TACTIC

SEX IS NOT THAT SMALL

This is the proverbial, “cutting off your nose to spite your face,” move. Don’t lay your sex on anyone’s chessboard. Your sexuality, your sexual interactions, are worthy of a higher value. Your sexual relationship opens doors — to heart and soul and bonding and love and tears and hope and comfort and wholeness and… to everything, including, and far beyond, your body. It’s worthy of cherishing, savoring, relishing, not deploying.

Why would you diminish your sex in a ploy of locking it down and away? Why would you relegate sex to less? Hasn’t history done that enough!
