Significance of Human Life

Human life is indeed a precious gift that each one of us possesses. But how far have we realized its value?

Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an enlightened being says, “One returns into the human form, after having wandered through various other life forms. This human body has been acquired with great difficulty, so use it to accomplish your work. The Soul has spent endless births to acquire this human body.”

It is only through the human form, that we get released from this cycle of wandering

We can attain liberation from the cycle of births and rebirths only when in human form. There is no other place from which one can attain liberation. If we know how to fulfill this human birth, then he can achieve liberation from all wanderings; but if we do not, then human life becomes a vehicle for endless wandering only.

How does human life become a vehicle for endless wandering?

The entire chain of life cycles is related to karma. In all other life forms, a living being only dissipates his karmas; but in the human form, one not only dissipates old karmas but binds new karmas as well.

We are generally trapped in a labyrinth of binding new merit karmas and demerit karmas, and is thus subject to endless wandering; there is no liberation happening from it. The most we get from earning a lot of merit karma is a life as a celestial being, but we cannot acquire liberation.
Param Pujya Dadashri explains, “Humans have the right to bind karma, no one else. So the next life level depends on the type of karma bound. Once the level is decided (as explained below), one has to go through that level, experience the effects and return to the human form.

  • The life-form as a human is retained as long as one does not indulge in that which is not rightfully his, even to the slightest extent. Those who enjoy what is rightfully theirs are born as humans.
  • Those who enjoy what is not rightfully theirs are born as animals.
  • Those who give what is rightfully theirs to others, go to the celestial realm, and
  • Those who forcibly take from others that which is not rightfully theirs and hurt them in the process, go to excruciatingly painful hell (nark gati).

Thus, one keeps wandering in these four life-forms. The fifth realm of existence is moksha (liberation)

The exact value of human birth lies in being liberated.

Human beings can transmigrate to any of the four life-forms. But if, as a human, one meets a Gnani Purush, the Liberated One, then he can acquire liberation (Moksha).

The Enlightened One, destroys your demerit karma of endless lifetimes through the divine fire of spiritual knowledge, and gives us the realization of our real Self i.e. Our Soul!!! Until then we have to keep on wandering within the four life forms.

Our real Self is our Pure Soul. We bound karmas in our past lives because of the ignorance of our real Self. Now, after Self-Realization, when we follow the principles laid down by the Gnani Purush, we do not bind new karmas, and hence will attain Moksha within one or two births. On being liberated, we can experience permanent happiness and become absolutely free from all miseries!!

From no other life form, not even celestial, can one attain the experience of the Self

The celestial beings enjoy life in the celestial world but they cannot achieve liberation without acquiring a human birth. There is abundance of sensory happiness in the celestial world, yet it is subject to end one day. Moreover there is mental restlessness, jealousy and other emotions that torment. For this reason, the celestial beings too wish to be born as a human being, so that they can meet Gnani Purush, obtain His grace and attain liberation.

Conclusion

The human life is the only one in which one can experience the Soul and attain the path to liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Only after meeting a Gnani Purush can we break free; otherwise we are forced to endlessly wander between the four different life forms. Such is the value of human life!!
