Let’s Talk About Death

I have been thinking a lot about death lately. I don’t know why people think of it as something extraordinary. I have seen enough deaths to question the usualness of it.
Death isn’t a topic for a normal conversation, even though it’s all around us. We somehow don’t address it enough. It’s scary to talk about death– some even consider it to be a bad omen. Maybe by not talking about it, we can ignore its omnipresence. I used to think so too.
I am now in the process of accepting the fact that death is as present as life itself. Life and death walk hand-in-hand, they play hide-and-seek till one wins. Death, in fact, is stronger than life—sometimes, we may feel like we are out of life even while living, breathing. We even casually say things like, I want to die — death is present even then. That’s why we need to make a conscious decision to live, to the fullest, as in, BE ALIVE every single day. Living to the fullest doesn’t mean that you need to go out, and drink and dance every day. I mean it in sense of being true to yourself and the people around you; understanding and addressing your own worries; taking a rest when you need to. Have big goals but don’t forget to enjoy the little things that we take for granted like the blue sky, colour of the sunset, shade of an old tree, company of our family and friends, and many other things that are given to us for free. Look around.
Try and surround yourself with people and purpose that fulfil you and your needs, be quick to cut ties with those who don’t — it helps to know that life is too short for that shit. What I mean to say is that we need to make life happen, you know, because, death happens on its own, not always, but it happens anyway.
