Ghost

I do not forget people’s faces

but they forget mine

wandering

through towns I used to live in

I make glances

at old faces

faces that I held

at a distance

never forgotten

never close enough

to touch

I walk by— unnoticed

hands shoved in my pockets

wondering

if I am just another wave

coming into the shore

the same as the last
